                 DR BREIDAHL'S PERSONAL SURGICAL  PHILOSOPHY

Dr. Breidahl aims to retain the personality and uniqueness of each individual, providing a natural, balanced result, in a safe environment.

In cosmetic surgery he is aiming for subtle changes which improve the patient’s appearance, without the “operated look”. Sometimes this requires approaching a procedure from several angles, with smaller changes from each direction adding up to a greater overall change. This minimises the tell tale signs of surgery that may accompany trying to achieve the same result from one approach. For example, a patient requesting upper eyelid surgery may have a significant change by removing a lot of skin from their upper eyelid, but by removing half as much skin from the eyelid and performing a brow lift to raise the eyebrows, a similar degree of change with more balance and less obvious evidence of surgery can be achieved.

Dr Breidahl is also concerned with restoring harmony and balance to appearance. For example rhinoplasty (nasal surgery) may produce an improvement in the appearances of the eyes and lips, if performed to balance and compliment the rest of the face, rather than concentrating on the nose as an individual structure. Similarly, a chin augmentation or reduction can be an important accompaniment to rhinoplasty to achieve a harmonious facial profile.

Your safety and comfort is central to Dr. Breidahl's Philosophy. For example, with eyelid surgery, there is a 1 in 40,000 risk of blindness, due to bleeding behind the eye. Although many surgeons will perform this procedure as a day patient, Dr. Breidahl strongly recommends staying in hospital overnight, where qualified nurses can monitor you and bleeding behind the eye can be identified early and treated, hopefully averting the complication of blindness. Similarly, for liposuction with significant amounts of fat removed, Dr. Breidahl recommends an overnight stay in hospital for monitoring and fluid replacement, as day surgery liposuction has significant complications from bleeding and fluid imbalance. The extra cost of overnight stay compared with day stay hospitalization is usually only a few hundred dollars, a small price to pay for the extra safety, comfort and ease of mind provided by inpatient care by trained nurses.
